Noah was a good man Noah was the most innocent man of his time Noah Pleased God in His Obedience. God told Noah to build an ark — Noah did. God gave him specific directions — Noah followed them. God told him to take in animals — he did. God told him to load up food — he did. God told Noah to get he and his family in — they did. Noah put God before himself. Notice, in the instructions that God gave, Noah was to build a door in the side of the ark.
Just one door. This one door is the only door through which any humans or any animals could enter into the ark. There are representatives of every kind of animal present, and they all have to come through this one door. Other Scriptures tell us that Noah preached to those around him, and presumably, they too could be saved, but they needed to enter in through this one door. Everyone came through the one door on the ark.
Others were invited, but only those whom God said would come entered in. Only those who were called entered in through the one door. When we meet Noah in the Bible, we learn that he is the only follower of God remaining in his generation. After the flood, he becomes the second father of the human race.
As an engineer, architect, and shipbuilder, he put together an amazing structure, the likes of which had never before been built. With the length of the project spanning years, building the ark was quite a notable achievement. Noah's greatest accomplishment, however, was his faithful commitment to obeying and walking with God all the days of his life.
Although Noah loved God with his whole heart and was fully committed to obeying his every command, this does not mean he was perfect or sinless. In fact, he had a weakness for wine, apparently his only recorded sin.
In Genesis, chapter 9, the Bible tells how Noah became drunk and passed out in his tent, making himself an embarrassment to his sons. Noah's life can be seen as a model of patience , persistence, and unwavering faithfulness to God in the face of a faithless society. Surely it wasn't easy for Noah, but he found favor in God's eyes because of his remarkable obedience. Just as God blessed and saved Noah, he will faithfully bless and protect those who follow and obey him today.
The call to obedience is not a short-term, one-time call. Like Noah, obedience must be lived out over a lifetime of faithful commitment. Those who persevere will finish the race. The story of Noah's drunken transgression is a reminder that even the godliest people have weaknesses and can fall prey to temptation and sin.
Without faith in the promises of God, it is impossible to please Him Hebrews Hebrews — What evidence did Noah have to go on when God asked him to build the Ark? Noah had never seen anything resembling a global flood before. Noah obeyed God not only because he knew God in a personal way, but also because his faith was acting on His word no matter how foolish it may have seemed to the world around him. As Christians we should seek to live our lives in light of a coming judgment and a new heavens and earth 2 Peter — It is the essence of sanity to take what God says seriously, whereas it is the insanity of sin to reject the Word of God.
The account of Noah and the Flood also teaches us about the reality of alienation from the world and the scoffing that will come from it, for those who side with God 2 Peter —6. It will cost a person everything for choosing to follow the Lord Jesus in this world, but the reward is priceless Matthew — The account of Noah also demonstrates both judgment and salvation. God is a God of righteous judgment who must punish sin, but most wonderfully He is a God who has provided a way of escape from His judgement.
He did this for Noah by way of the Ark. The Flood is a horrifying account of judgment but also one of glorifying redemption. Our lives will be characterized by either one of these. Either we will trust in Jesus and be redeemed, or we will face the judgment of God for our sin Romans —26; Acts
